What does private pay mean?
Private pay means that you will directly pay the full fee charged to the practitioner for services up front. Some have access to use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost of their sessions.
How does private pay work if I have out of network benefits?
The practitioner you see will provide you a superbill which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement if your insurance has out of network benefits. Think of a superbill as a receipt that documents what service is provided, by whom, and the amount paid. The amount reimbursed depends on your insurance plan and if you have out-of-network benefits. If your plan does not have out of network benefits, then you will incur the entire cost of the services provided.
Is private pay a hassle?
It is not! Your insurance will provide you with the correct address to forward the superbill, and with some insurances/plans you may be able to forward the superbill electronically.
